Power Up with Protein Packed Snacks
Protein is an important part of healthy diet. It is essential to build and repair muscles and a wonderful energy source. Protein is about the long game rather than a quick energy boost. Surprisingly protein is not typically used for energy like carbs. If your body isn't getting enough calories, then the protein in your body will be broken down as ketone bodies to be used as energy.
Here are some protein-packed snacks you can try:
Peanut Butter Toast
Pizza Lettuce Wraps
Hard boiled eggs & Almonds
Greek yogurt & Almonds
Tuna Salad Spread with crackers
Smart Carbs for Sustained Energy
Many people say avoid carbs when on a weight loss journey. As a nutrition coach, I would recommend eating "smart carbs" instead. Being intentional about consuming more complex carbs is a better plan than completely avoiding carbs altogether. Complex carbs take more time to digest than simple carbs. Thus, they don't spike your blood sugar as fast as simple carbs. They also pack in more nutrients than simple carbs. Complex carbs have longer chains of sugar molecules and the body converts these molecules into glucose; ultimately, using it for energy.
Here are some complex carbs you can try:
Oatmeal
Quinoa
Sweet potatoes
Black beans
Apples
Many working professionals juggle various responsibilities all week long and this in turn, affects your energy levels. We often reach for meals that include simple carbs or sugary snacks, but hopefully, this post gives you some ideas of foods that will help sustain your energy.
