How to Stay Motivated

Nowadays, I feel bombarded with messages around being a go-getter or influencer or some kind of "motivated" person. In my opinion, all of us need a little motivation. All of us need to find ways to stay motivated in our day-to-day life even if our personality doesn't fit the typical "motivated" kind of person. I heard this quote that said "The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing." Even though this is a simple and powerful quote, some of us read this and feel a sense of defeat instead of encouragement and motivation. Don't get me wrong, there are several things that impact our motivation whether it's fatigue from a long day or feelings of depression; the list goes on and on. No matter what we have the power to make a CHOICE. We can choose to let the day conquer us or we conquer the day. Many times we just need to choose to begin doing something and then the motivation will follow. Here are three ways that we can stay motivated to conquer the day:

Find Effective Rewards

Something important to keep in mind when finding an effective reward is rewarding yourself with something that doesn't compromise or undermine the goal. It's a common trap that most of us do.... But with the proper boundaries and accountability, you can build the support system to keep you motivated. If you are trying to save $5000 in 5 months, maybe you can treat yourself one time every month to your favorite restaurant. Again, you can not treat yourself there every week because that will sabbotage the whole plan. But doing the special treat once a month, as long as you are hitting those monthly financial goals, seems reasonable to me.

Find Accountability

I am a firm believer that having a strong support system in your life helps you feel like you can conquer anything. When you have close friends in your life who can hold you accountable, you feel inspired to be better and to do better. People in your community who help hold you accountable will remind you of your why. They will encourage you to keep going and that's why it's so important to have people like that in your circle.

Do some Goal-Setting

Statistics show that when salespeople have targets, they close more deals. Having goals in place...not just any goals but SMART goals help you create a system for the "why" to be cultivated or accomplished. Your goals must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based. Once you have that, you will feel a little bit more motivated to tackle each day. Side note: I also think it's important to take a break. Maybe you just need a reset in order to get back to it and accomplish whatever you set out to accomplish. So don't forget to take those quick breaks if/when necessary.

I want to empathize with you for a second. I know that sometimes its hard to stay motivated and perhaps you are the person that finds it to stay motivated everyday, but trust me, you are not alone. I'm sure many of us reading this can say that there are several things that decrease our motivation. For me, I feel less motivated to do something when I can't see the why behind it. If I can't fully see the meaning or the purpose, I'm usually tapped out lol. However, sometimes the why is just to accomplish the task at hand - that's it and honestly that's okay. The more tasks you accomplish the more motivated you start to feel. Just start somewhere and trust the process. You can do it!
