Should I do a Detox?

Honestly, there is no clear yes or no answer to this question. Many of my clients have asked me this question. It's a common one for sure. Before I share some benefits of doing a detox, it is important to keep in mind that each individual's body will respond differently to a detox. So, if you are asking me if YOU should do a detox, I would say it depends on how your body responds to it. If you have tried it before, evaluate how your body responded and how you felt once the detox was completed. If your body responded well generally speaking and your physician presented no concerns, then that's awesome. Adding a detox to your lifestyle may be a great option for you. If your body didn't respond well and you hated it, then let's just stay away from it altogether. No need to try something again if it's not working well for you. Maybe it's just not the time and that's ok. At the end of the day, you should consult your physician for detailed, medical recommendations.

On another note, here's some benefits (not limited to) of doing a detox:

Assistance in losing stagnant weight

Many times the stubborn fat or weight that we retain is due to the amount of toxins in our bodies. A detox is often a great option to kickstart that weight loss. It cleanses the body of those toxins that are blocking you from more consistent weight loss. You can do a three day detox or even a seven day detox - either way, your body is starting to cleanse itself of those toxins pretty quickly. Some people do a fast as a form of a detox too. There are many options. You just have to find what works best for you.

Mental Clarity

Unfortunately, a build-up of toxins in your body eventually lead to your brain which affects your mental alertness. These toxins affect your ability to concentrate and you may experience a level of brain fog. It can lead to poor sleeping patterns, anxiety, and depression. When you do a detox, you are cleansing your body and therefore, cleansing your brain for more sharpness and focus. Who doesn't want that, right?!

Radiant Skin

When your body is overloaded with toxins, it normally escapes through your pores. As a result, your skin is significantly affected. Have you ever noticed that your face breaks out after you consume processed foods? Of course, your skin may not react immediately because it is all respective to the individual. However, after too much consumption, you may see a difference in your skin. Detoxing the body can help provide a more clear and radiant look to the skin.
